The statement skirt that reminded me how transformative clothes can be!

I remember the first time I saw this skirt. It was in an Instagram post, and the woman wearing it was swaying back and forth, making the fringe swing. I immediately fell in love and started searching for it. It was no surprise to discover that it was from one of my favorite brands, L’Agence, and I ordered it without hesitation.
Because it’s faux leather, the price was less than I expected, although it’s still a bit of an investment. Sometimes you just have to go for it, and when you do, those pieces often become the ones that stay in your wardrobe and come out year after year.
This outfit makes me feel incredibly confident. The black, the movement of the fringe and the suede stiletto boots make the perfect going-out look. The skirt makes a big statement on its own so I paired it with a simple black cashmere sweater I bought last season, coincidentally also from L’Agence. I think the combination is perfect.
Since I love this skirt so much, I’ve already imagined several other ways to wear it. I think it would look fabulous with a denim shirt and tall black cowboy boots! I’ve ordered a western belt that I hope will pull that look together. When the weather gets cooler, I also want to experiment with a cropped jacket.
I kept the jewelry simple and finished the outfit with my little calf-hair Givenchy bag (similar here). That purchase was much like the skirt….the moment I saw it, I knew it had to be mine. I’ve carried it often, and it’s amazing how something so tiny can make such a big statement. I think these are the kinds of pieces that define your personal style.
But…personal style isn’t about filling your closet with statement pieces. It’s about recognizing the ones that speak to you and having the confidence to wear them your own way. They may not be the most practical choices, but they’re often the pieces that make getting dressed feel exciting and make an outfit unmistakably yours.
As I was getting ready for this photo shoot, Baldy looked at me and said, “Where can I take you?” That question made me feel even more confident because he obviously really likes the look, and I absolutely cannot wait to wear this skirt for a night out! This is the power of fashion!

There’s a trend on Instagram right now that I love – women saying they don’t want to be twenty again…they want to be their age and show younger women how good life can be at fifty-five, sixty and beyond. That idea has stayed with me, especially as I was wearing this skirt. I’m proud to be sixty-three and don’t want to be twenty again. However, I don’t believe my age needs to determine what I wear or become the defining theme of everything I do. Stay tuned because I’ll be sharing more thoughts about that on Substack very soon!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post…please let me know in the comments!!!! What do you think, I really want to know!
Thanks so much for reading today!
