September Chic – Favorite Outfits and the Pieces That Make Them

01

September always gives me a little more room to play with my wardrobe…summer pieces still in rotation, with a few fall favorites finding their way into the mix. I’m looking back at some of my favorite outfits from the month and spotlighting one piece from each look that makes it work. You’ll find links to what’s still available, along with similar options for anything that has sold out. These are looks I’ll be revisiting this fall, with a few changes as the weather cools.

The jeans and top I’m wearing in the picture above are from Ann Taylor and I have been very pleasantly surprised at the direction they’ve taken lately. The pieces feel more current and are definitely ones that I’ll have on rotation for fall. The price point is great for the quality and these pieces could easily transition from work to weekend. I will say that the pants are running large so size down if you’re on the fence. I also have my eye on this fabulous suede fringe jacket that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about! The fabulous chocolate brown suede bag from Spartina 449 is worth taking a look at as well…it’s a great bag that’s very reasonably priced.

Every once in a while, a dress comes along that you just know will eventually be yours! I wrote about the story in my blog post here. I love the story of purchasing this dress and couldn’t be happier to have it hanging in my closet. I’ve been a huge fan of the Zimmerman brand for a while now, but never purchased anything until this past spring. These are keep forever pieces that will wear beautifully for years to come. If you’re looking for a special dress for a special occasion, this could be the one.

This fabulous denim dress was gifted to me and it’s one of my favorite casual fall dresses. I love the high neck and the fitted bodice…so flattering. I decided to pair it with black cowboy boots from Golden Goose that I’ve had for several years and a suede bag from Isabel Marant. I wore my hair up to show off the neck of the dress and added a pair of statement earrings from Julie Vos. The whole look is perfect for fall! However…unfortunately, the dress is almost sold out everywhere but I found a few sizes here, but I’ve also linked a few others that I think you’ll love!

I love a cropped jacket with high waisted pants and this one from Alice & Olivia has been in heavy rotation for me. I wore it to my class reunion on Saturday and it was perfect. The styling possibilities are endless…a longer blouse underneath looks great as well as a tee. I’ve been playing around with proportions and find it so easy to style. Again, unfortunately it’s sold out (this one is similar), but it also comes in black which I think is a great and even more versatile option. I paired the jacket here with a striped tee from Joe’s jeans, a suede bag from Jimmy Choo and suede booties from Veronica Beard (similar here). I bought the bag several years ago and it’s still available. It’s one of those bags that you’ll pull out every fall and enjoy carrying all over again.

I had no idea when I purchased these shorts or these suede sandals just how much I would wear either of them. The shorts are the perfect length and since up until a couple of days ago, we’ve had pretty warm weather, I really have worn them often. The sandals are suede making them perfect with so many fall looks but also making them ideal for warmer days. I paired these pieces with a gorgeous light blue cashmere sweater from Brochu Walker and an older bag from Tory Burch (this one is very similar). I’ll swap out the shorts for jeans (blue or white) and add a blouse under the sweater when the weather turns cooler.

This was one of my most popular posts on Instagram and I’m sure it’s because of the elevated basics paired with standout accessories. Everyone needs a great pair of jeans and a white button up, but it’s always the accessories that make the look. The absolutely fabulous pair of leopard flats are so cute with and I’ve been treating them as a neutral pair of shoes and wearing them with everything. The red bag from Tory Burch is unexpected and I think the belt adds just the right finishing touch to the look.

This was another very popular post…the top steals the show here with the asymmetrical hem line and fringe and you can’t beat the price. The fall colors are perfect, and it’s easily styled with dark wash jeans and booties. I’m wearing the same suede bag as shown above from Spartina 449.

Another look made from everyday basics…straight leg cropped jeans and a white blouse buttoned in a funky way mixes things up a bit. I threw a tan cashmere sweater around my shoulders added a leopard bag from Tory Burch (similar here) along with some suede booties from Veronica Beard. This is a look I’ll wear on repeat in some form or fashion for the whole season. It’s classic and always looks amazing!

I won’t say that this skirt is my most practical purchase of the season, but it is so much fun and perfect for twirling! I went all in on the fringe trend and it’s finally getting cool enough to wear it! I actually thought about wearing it to my class reunion the other night but then decided at the last minute that it was a bit much. I styled it with a black cashmere henley sweater, suede booties from Schutz and a tiny calf hair bag. The bag is another purchase that, at the time, I didn’t realize how much I would carry. I took it to Spain and wore it several different times. It’s a perfect punctuation mark for so many looks!

I have honestly been surprised that this button up hasn’t been more popular. It’s one of my favorite new items from Brochu Walker…I love the cropped length and the navy and white stripe. It looks amazing with white or blue jeans or these trousers (also from Brochu Walker). The little denim sling back flats (almost sold out but these are similar) from Madison Maison couldn’t be any cuter with the top and the yellow bag adds just a touch of color to the look. I’m planning to style this top with white jeans and boots for another very different look.

Looking back at these outfits gives me plenty of ideas for what I want to wear next. A different shoe, an added layer, or a favorite jacket can give the same pieces a whole new feel. I’d love to know which look is your favorite—and what you’re excited to wear this fall. Thanks so much for reading!

Oh Suzanne! So many gorgeous outfits! I think my favorites are the Zimmerman dress and the fringe top (but I will need to lose several inches on my waist to wear them!)!!! But, let’s also talk about the shoes. I love the polka dot flats and the suede sandals. So fun!
I’m packing this week for a quick trip home to see my siblings so I’m channeling your more casual outfits for this trip. Fall is here and I am so ready for jeans and a sweater!
