As much as I love summer, I also love thinking about the fall season, and August is when that always begins for me. I’m seeing fall clothes online and in stores, and planning a few outfits for the season ahead is always fun. The older I get, the more I want to invest in forever pieces, although I’ll always add a few trendy items just for fun and to mix things up. This year’s J.Crew Pre-Fall Collection has me especially excited because it’s filled with beautifully made wardrobe staples that never go out of style.

It feels like I’ve finally collected a wardrobe full of pieces I’ll reach for again and again, and adding just a few new things simply builds on what I already have. Coming up with fresh looks isn’t about starting over…it’s about learning to mix things up and wear what I already own in new and different ways.

Fashion feels more exciting than ever this season, and even though I know it will be warm here in the South well into October, I can still begin incorporating a few fall-inspired pieces in another month or so. I’m thinking about finding the perfect white tee and buying it in multiples, a great pair of ivory jeans instead of predictable white, a new denim jacket that feels fresh but only gets better with age, a beautiful suede bag in an unexpected color, and a few gorgeous scarves that finish the look. I’m also honestly dying over this fabulous cotton car coat! It’s in my cart as we speak! These are the kinds of pieces that make me excited for fall, and they’re exactly what caught my eye in J.Crew’s new pre-fall collection.

I’ve had a soft spot for J.Crew for years. Like so many women, I loved the Jenna Lyons era when getting dressed felt playful and a little unexpected. She reminded us that classic didn’t have to mean predictable and that mixing polished pieces with casual favorites was what made an outfit feel personal. J.Crew wasn’t just selling clothes…it was inspiring a way of dressing that felt effortless, creative, and uniquely American.

Today’s J.Crew feels like it’s come full circle. The collections are a bit quieter now, with an emphasis on timeless tailoring, quality fabrics, and versatile pieces that become the backbone of a wardrobe rather than simply following every passing trend. As someone who has become much more intentional about what I add to my closet, I find myself drawn to the brand all over again.

We’re headed home from the beach later this afternoon, and I’ll admit I’m bracing myself for seeing the damage from the tree. Tomorrow will be filled with meeting contractors, gathering estimates, cleaning out the refrigerators, making a few renovation decisions, and fitting in a much-needed Botox appointment and pedicure. (A couple of weeks at the beach is hard on your toes!) It’s funny how life can shift so quickly…from peaceful beach days to renovation plans, but I’m choosing to see it as the beginning of something new. I’ll take you along for the journey.
