Imagine…Florals for Spring

01

Personality and glamour, bold and vibrant, animal prints as neutrals…this is spring and I’m so excited.

There’s something almost defiant about the way fashion explodes into color and volume and an almost theatrical excess during turbulent times. It’s like a collective subconscious decision…the world is falling apart, so we’re going to wear feathers.

You see it throughout history. The Roaring Twenties came right after the devastation of World War I and the Spanish flu…suddenly hemlines shot up, beading went wild, and everyone was dripping in fringe and art deco geometry. Or look at the New Romantic movement in early 1980s Britain, with its ruffled shirts and dramatic makeup, emerging directly from economic collapse and social unrest. When the world feels small and dark, fashion seems to say “absolutely not” and goes as big and bright as possible.

There’s something almost healing about it, this impulse to create beauty and playfulness when everything else feels heavy. It’s not escapism exactly, it’s more like emotional counterweight. When you can’t control the chaos, you can at least control what you put on your body.

You can be a walking act of optimism, or humor, or just sheer stubborn joy.

And maybe there’s rebellion in it too. Extravagant fashion during dark times feels like refusing to let the darkness win, like saying “you don’t get to take this from us too.” It’s why punk emerged from economic depression, why maximalism keeps circling back whenever minimalism starts feeling too austere for the moment we’re living in.

Fashion becomes this strange barometer of collective psychology…the worse things get, the more we seem to need beauty that doesn’t apologize for taking up space. Now is definitely that time!

Today I’m sharing my favorite pieces from Alice & Olivia…also keep scrolling for a few thoughts on this joyful brand!

Alice + Olivia is a brand for women who want to look put-together but never boring.

The aesthetic is feminine and whimsical, with a heavy emphasis on bold prints, vibrant colors, and unexpected details with a retro influence.

Stacey Bennet, the founder and creative director, has built the brand around this idea of “strollering”—looking chic even in casual moments…so there’s an accessible glamour to it. It’s aspirational but not untouchable.

Alice + Olivia also leans heavily into novelty and storytelling through its designs. You’ll see face prints, lip motifs, floral explosions, animal patterns…things that make a piece feel like a conversation starter rather than just another black dress. The vibe is confident, optimistic, a little bit quirky, and definitely not for someone who wants to blend into the background!

It’s the brand for women who view getting dressed as a creative act, not a chore. Here’s to that!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and the little fashion history lesson! Alice + Olivia feels like a bright spot right now and I think we could all use a little more brightness!

Thanks so much for reading…Happy Friday!

Hi Harret! I am also very tired of this dreary winter…it’s lasting way to long! I’m already trying to add some bright colors…even if it’s just a scarf, to my wardrobe to cheer me up a bit! I hope you’re staying warm and having a great weekend! Thank you as always for your comments!
