Easy Summer Entertaining with Mari Jones

01

Because the best summer memories are often made around the table.

There are certain summer evenings that don’t need much planning to feel special. A simple, but very delicious tart, a bottle of chilled wine, flowers from the farmer’s market and a table set with care are often all it takes. I’ve always believed that the atmosphere we create is just as important as the meal itself. Beautiful linens, favorite dishes and fresh flowers have a way of slowing everyone down and making an ordinary weeknight feel like an occasion.

When Mari Jones reached out and asked if she could send me a few of her handmade linens, I immediately said yes. I told her to surprise me with her favorites, and when they arrived, I knew exactly why she chose them. The vibrant colors and beautiful prints are so cheerful and instantly brought this summer table to life. They remind me that summer is best lived in full color, with simple meals shared outside, conversations that linger long after dinner and a table that invites everyone to stay just a little longer.

My outfit is very simple but one of my favorites…comfortable, but still polished enough so that I feel put together! My jeans you’ve seen before…they are from AMO and really perfect for a warm summer afternoon, my top is from Veronica Beard and I’ve worn it so often because, clearly it goes with everything and can be easily dressed up! I got my cute shoes during the Tory Burch 40% off sale (I tried to tell you all) and I have barely taken them off since they came! I put them on first thing in the morning and wear them with everything from shorts to jeans to yes…my sweatpants that I wear in the house! They are elevated yet comfy and so cute! I have a feeling I’ll be replacing these every year!

These vibrant linens are right up my alley! I couldn’t love the print mixing more and the colors are some of my favorites. I absolutely couldn’t wait to set the table when they came and I just happened to have the perfect dishes to complement them. I’ll admit that I’ve also been thinking about looking for other dishes to add to my collection that go with these placemats and napkins. I really love the feel of this table…artsy, colorful and so inviting!

My handmade plates from Haand Studio also compliment the linens and were an ideal size for serving my delicious Boursin & Prosciutto tart. I served it straight from the oven on a wooden board lined with parchment. This tart is unbelievably delicious and so easy to make…keep scrolling for the recipe!

No evening is ever complete without a bite of cheese and I just happened to find these flowers at the grocery store for the cheese board that were the same purple as the purple in the napkins and placemats…really it’s the small things that make all the difference!

You know I collect dishes of all kinds and I’m always on the lookout for small bowls that look great on a cheese board. I found these in a nearby town on a Saturday morning when my daughter and I had been to the Farmer’s market there. I love the green color (if you can even tell) and they’re the perfect size to hold a hand full of roasted and salted pecans on a small board. I roast my pecans with salt, a little bit of butter and a sprinkle of Honey Aleppo Pepper. I also love these bowls to serve them in!

Everything doesn’t have to be homemade…I purchased these lemon squares at the grocery store and they’re pretty delicious! I’ve been having a bite of one with my morning coffee. I served them on a vintage gold rimmed glass tray that I’ve had forever.

I always have on a bracelet stack from Vahan…it’s elegant and goes with everything!

This tart is so simple to make that I don’t even need to include a recipe…simply place a sheet of puff pastry on a baking sheet, spread with one package of Boursin cheese and add about 1-1/2 packages of prosciutto slices. Drizzle the whole thing with olive oil and bake until the pastry is brown around the edges. It’s best served warm, but not horrible right out of the refrigerator…just trust me on this one! Make this when you have “surprise” guests coming, or serve it with a salad for an easy lunch or light dinner! I promise it’s so delicious!

The jeans and shoes and the sweater…my kind of casual summertime look!

I’ve been collecting these dishes from for many years and I think they’re just the thing with these placemats

I have a feeling these linens will be making an appearance on my table all season long. They’re exactly the kind of pieces I love to collect…beautiful, well made, and full of personality. Now all I need is another excuse to invite friends over.
