This weekend, I was invited by a friend to do a closet tour for Instagram! It sounded great at the time because I thought I would get my closet cleaned out and looking organized and that it would be fun. And then…the panic set in! I began as I usually do by trying on my jeans. I was determined not to try them all on, decide I like them still and hang them back up, so I started the process of really purging. I found jeans that were almost brand new that I had forgotten about, and did end up having quite a pile to donate. However, there is still the rest of the closet to deal with!

This past year was so different in terms of what we all wore. I don’t know about everyone, but during the cold months, I’ve lived in jeans and jogger sets and in the summer, I wore shorts and swimsuits. I did still shop, but mostly the dressier pieces that I normally would have worn out to dinner or to the other places that we used to go have gone unworn…hanging in my closet.

I’ve realized through beginning this purging process that I hang on to things, thinking that “one day” I might wear them. I’m not sure at this point that “one day” is going to come, so I’m trying to streamline and keep only what I love. Marie Condo says to keep only the pieces that bring you joy. and that’s what I’m trying to do. It really doesn’t have anything to do with whether something is new or old…if it doesn’t bring me joy…it’s in the donate pile!

The vest I’m wearing here definitely is a keeper! If I’m remembering correctly, it was purchased in 2014…I loved it then, and I love it now! It has a great boho vibe and it really makes a fun statement. I’ve paired it with grey jeans, a new sweater from H&M, tall Stuart Weitzman boots (also old and bring me joy), and a bag that was purchased at Henri Bendel years ago! I’ll try to photograph my closet edit and do a blog post about what I learn along the way! You’d think this was the first time I’d ever cleaned out my closet and in a way, maybe it’s the first time I’ve REALLY cleaned out my closet!
