This summer is flying by and I want to make sure that when I look back, I remember the things I intentionally did. Nothing grand, just the things that really matter.
Starting with my grandchildren. Two of them live right down the street, and I want to see them every day that we’re in town… even if it’s just popping in for a minute. The ones who live out of town are a different kind of effort, so I want to plan at least one trip to visit them where they live and do fun things that turn into real memories (here’s my Richmond City Guide). We’ll all be at the beach together for a week, but there’s something special about seeing them on their own turf.
Then there are Archie and Amos. I’ve been working so much that some days they don’t get their walk, and I feel guilty because they absolutely deserve one. So I’m committing to walking them every day, weather permitting.
I want to prioritize my health in a bigger way too. That means eating fresh local produce (here’s a fabulous recipe for peach cobbler) and more protein, getting to yoga at least twice a week or doing it at home, and stepping up my skincare. I have a red light mask I want to use every night along with my ZIIP laser. These are easy things that make a real difference when you actually do them consistently… and I’m not getting any younger.
There are a few projects around the house I’m excited about. I want to plant some perennials so the yard looks really pretty come fall. We have stones left over from the patio that would make a beautiful little walkway by the woods, and I’d like to lay that myself… a small challenge that’ll make our home more beautiful. I’ve also been eyeing water features for the courtyard. The sound of water is so soothing and would add another pretty element back there.
Since we’ll be at the beach for several weeks, I’m committing to reading four books this summer. That might not sound like much, but with how busy this blog keeps me, it’s more of a commitment than you’d think. And if it’s at all possible, I want to start taking Sundays off to rest, reset, and let my creativity come back.
Oh, and one more thing… I’m planning a trip to Europe for Baldy and me, and I really want to get serious about pulling it together.
These all sound simple, but writing them down and staying conscious of my progress will mean so much when summer is over and I can say… this is what I did.
Doesn’t that sound like enough?
I got these pretty sweet peas at the farmer’s market…they came in this cute little jar and I’ve really enjoyed them. I know they’ll be gone in a few days…and isn’t summer exactly like that?
I’m in my favorite AMO jeans for all of this, by the way. They’re lightweight with a modified barrel shape and so comfortable. The tee is a cropped, fitted one from Donni, my shoes are older Marc Fisher platforms (similar and actually better here), and my jewelry is a mix of Hart and VAHAN. Simple, easy and cute. I added the heels to dress it up a little, but it’s still completely casual!

It’s been so sunny and hot here but today, we’re having a little reprieve. It’s cloudy and much cooler and that’s fine with me! It’s a great day to sit outside and work and run a few errands. Oh…and take those pups for a walk!
Thanks so much for reading today! I’d love to know what you think of the blog’s new look! Leave a comment and let me know if you’ve run across any issues or if it’s been smooth sailing! I’d love to know because there are still a few kinks to be worked out!
