A New Arm Workout – Biceps, Triceps, Shoulders and Core

01

Good morning! I wanted to share this video that I did a while back and shared within my Journey of Becoming Program. I think it’s a good arm workout and touches some core as well. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve struggled, not with arm muscles, but with skin quality. My skin is getting crepey and I’m trying to address this by taking collagen supplements, using good products and eating well. I have done some Morpheus 8 treatments (read more here) and I think there is some promise of help there, but it will take time. Sometimes, keeping up with everything that’s sagging feels like an uphill battle, but I’m still trying! In my life, I’ve spent way too much time in the sun and I’m paying for it now. The problem is that I still love the sun…it feeds my soul! I am embracing self tanners but I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to totally stay out of the sun. At least, there is always exercise!

Watch this video all the way through before you start and modify as necessary. If you can’t do all the reps at first, do what you can and build up as you go. With summer coming, we’ll be showing our arms much more, so now is a good time to get started doing some toning exercises! I have several other workouts on my YouTube channel that you may enjoy and hopefully, I’ll be posting more very soon.

The photo above is unedited…I’m trying to be really transparent going forward because I think it’s so important to represent the truth, especially when I’m speaking about crepey skin and exeercise. There is only so much you can do…obviously we are all going to age (as gracefully as possible)!

As always, it’s important to combine exercise with a healthy diet and lots of water!

Here is a boutique of workout gear! I’m very particular about my leggings! I like them high waisted so that my stomach doesn’t show! I want to be comfortable to move without being self conscious! The tops are from Target and I find that I really like them. I do not like the removable bra pads because they get wadded up and don’t look good…I prefer a built in bra.

I have been wanting a good arm workout. I am 62 and relate to the crepy skin issue. I am woring very hard with some products that I like, drinking enough water, exercise ( I run and do yoga) and maintaining a healthy diet. I know strength training is important but find I am not as dedicated as I should be. But the truth is my 60s is where I am seeing them most decline with my skin. My 50s were a walk in the park compared to my 60s. But on the up side I always have goals! Right? Thanks for sharing! Peace! Cheryl

      Hi Cheryl
Since I’m getting ready to enter into my 60’s, this is not so good to hear but I’m fighting it as much as possible!
I have always loved to lift weights because it makes me feel so good and I know it’s great for bone health as an added bonus so I keep doing it. I need to stretch more and have stopped running for the most part and take brisk walks with my dog (he really walks me!).
I’m sure neither of us will ever give up on trying to age as gracefully as possible! Some days are easier than others, but the goal is always there!

Thank you for the new arm workout! I’ve been doing your other one from about 3 years ago and I love it! I’m going to try this one today! Although, I think I will modify with lighter wrist weights. Please more exercise videos! Beginner and Moderate is my level. Also let us know how the Morpheus works. Always interested in turning back the clock with not too drastic methods. 🙂 Thank you, Suzanne, and have a good week!

      Hi Barbara

I’m so happy to know you’ve been doing the arm workout and I hope you love this one! I think the added plank is a great end and such good core work! Also, it’s always best to modify as necessary!
I will keep you posted about the Morpheus. It is supposed to firm and stimulate collagen and if it works, it will be well worth it. It is painful but somewhat quick!

    Hi Suzanne,
The creepy skin thing is so frustrating, I can relate and I’m trying hard to reverse it, but so far nothing works. Been taking collagen for years, use lots of moisturizer, do yoga for strength and toning, try to eat well. But I lost some weight recently (stress) and the skin is the place it shows the most. Anyway, going to try to stay positive and just happy I have arms and legs that work!
    Xo Heidi

      Hi Heidi

Crepey skin is definitely an unexpected issue that we’re having to deal with (among others)! I will keep you posted on the Morpheus 8 and let you know if I have good results! I’m really hoping it’s going to help…
You are so right about being positive and grateful to be here with working limbs! The aging saga continues but we can make the most of every day!

    Hey Suzanne,

I’ll pass along a tip that was given to 26 year old me by my swing shift/nurse supervisor (once upon a time CNA here, as anyone who’s worked in the medical field can tell you, washing your hands is a constant thing which is very hard on the skin) any way, was giving last report and she advised me to use Vitamin E skin care cream by Fruit of the Earth. I also add a bit of rose hip or plain rose oil.

I saves my hands and hydrates the rest of me and it doesn’t cost a scary amount. I make sure my 80 year old mother in law uses it to…she’s got the most delicate and crepey tear prone skin I’ve ever seen and this helps with that so much.

Thanks for hearing me give my two cents!

I will check out your fitness routine!

    Best,

    • Suzanne Smith says:

      Hi April

This is so good to know about! I will definitely try it and I’ll let you know! I hope you like the workout!

  5. Juliet says:

Thanks for the arm workout, Suzanne … and pointing me toward your other workout videos on YouTube. Your arms are an inspiration. Mine have been pretty good until recently. I fell off the exercise train. Getting them back in shape is easier than dealing with my latest issue, crepey skin. Oof. I’m going to try to Vit. E cream recommended by April. I probably should add collagen to my diet. The sun took its toll on my Irish skin, and self tanning has turned into a nightmare as I look like a leopard … so what to do?! I’ll be curious to hear more about your treatment. xo

    • Suzanne Smith says:

      Hi Juliet

The crepey skin a real dilemma! I have 5 treatments and should be able to tell a little each time. After 2 treatments, I think I can see some improvement but time will tell. I love so much about getting older, but lack of collagen is not one of them!
I’m so happy you’re enjoying the workouts!

  6. Jan says:

Okay, maybe I missed it, but how many pound weights are you using? Thanks!

  7. Jan says:

What pound weights are you using? Thanks!
