Live From the Back Porch with Jeanne Robertson & Me...The Crazy Blonde
Last Saturday, I had the honor of being a guest on Live From the Back Porch with Jeanne Robertson! It was a cold, snowy, icy, yucky day AND it was such a fun day because I spent it with Jeanne and friends! Jeanne is a native of Graham NC, which is just down the road from where I live, but she now lives in Burlington, which is where I live. Iβve known Jeanne for many years, but also, at that point, hadnβt seen her for many years. Several weeks ago, out of the blue, she called and asked if I would like to be a guest on her Facebook Live show and my answer wasβ¦of course!
Jeanne started the Facebook live show when the pandemic hit and she could no longer travel and perform. She is a humorist, motivational speaker, and a former Miss North Carolina. She is also 6 ft 2 in, so as you can imagine, she has quite a presence!
Jeanne had seen that I taught a charcuterie class at our local arts council over the holidays, and thought it might be fun and funny to get a (small) group together and have a charcuterie competition. Normally, her guests are comedians and performers, so I was a little out of the ordinary, but extremely flattered to be invited!
What a fun day it was! We laughed and made some great boards, andβ¦we did our best to follow safe COVID guidelines, including wearing gloves and staying some distance apart at the table.
I will say that what stands out the most about Jeanne is her ability to adapt. When she could no longer travel, she came up with the Facebook live idea and it has been a huge hit! She does a show every Saturday and all of her live shows go onto YouTube (the one I did is below), so you can watch and laugh for days! Jeanneβs YouTube following has grown to 326K and after watching her, youβll know why!
The morning started off with a short interviewβ¦I was a little nervous because I knew how many people were watching! Jeanne made me feel welcomed and I quickly relaxed and had the best time! You can watch the YouTube recording belowβ¦
There were three cameras to capture all of us and the massive table with a huge assortment of cheeses, meats, and accoutrements to make our charcuterie boards!
Jeanne started off with rules!
No grabbling off other peopleβs boards
No putting food on your board after taking a bite
Keep your eyes on your own board!
Clearly, this was meant to be funny and we laughedβ¦a lot!
Pictured above is Norma Roseβ¦as youβll see in the video, she totally stole the show! Norma Rose arrived with her own bag of goodies, including salami rosettes! She also brought a jar of homemade chocolate sauce to everyone!
This is just a sample of the assortment of cheeses to make our boards!
At 78 years old, Jeanne is still going strong with no plans of slowing down! She is truly an inspiration to me!
I had to have my picture made with Norma Rose and her chocolate sauce, which by the way is very delicious! I had to put mine in the freezer to keep from eating it by the spoonful!
Everyone had a great time! We all took our cheeseboards home and left with some great memories!
The finished boardsβ¦.
The winning board!
My takeaway from this wonderful experience isβ¦say yes more often, be open to new experiences and let your goal be to have fun! Thanks so much Jeanne for inviting me to be a guest on Live From the Back Porch with Jeanne Robertson!
