Taking the Inevitable Journey
If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent most of your life managing your household, your family’s schedules and their lives…you may have had a full time job outside of your home or you may have had a full time job being a mother, wife, volunteer and taxi driver for your children, but now things are changing drastically. Maybe your children are in college, or married with children of their own. Maybe your marriage is no longer what you wish it was, or you’ve found yourself single in your 50’s. If you feel like you’re struggling trying to figure out what your next step is, and you have an underlying sense that things could be better; if you want to live a life of purpose but are struggling with what to do, you’re not alone. It’s time to step back, focus on where you are now, and then figure out where you want to go. It’s so easy to lose yourself in all of the inevitable changes such as kids growing up, aging parents, retirement and possibly even downsizing and moving into a new smaller home. We all want a happy and rewarding life. It’s all too easy to get stuck living in the past and wishing for what was, or what could have been. Instead, follow your curiosity and you just might find the path to the greatest time in your life!
Everything that is happening in your life is something that you attracted for one reason or the other. You may not realize it, but your thoughts are powerful…so, ask for what you desire, for what’s in your heart, and then let it go. The Universe (or God, whatever you want to call this higher power) will take it from there. You deserve to live the life that you wish to live. Midlife is a time of change…everything that you’ve lived is different and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Re-invent yourself and follow your heart and your dreams. You are worthy and you are enough, just as you are. That’s something that I’ve had a hard time learning and must relearn over and over, but I do know that It’s never to late to create the life that you want…because you are worthy and blessed and enough!
At some point, we’re all invited to take the hero’s journey - to leave the safety of the familiar, face our demons, and find our way to the life we truly want to live. After some deep reflection, I’m back on my path and I invite you once again to take this journey with me. Whether you’re questioning your own mortality, because in midlife, suddenly you realize that you may have less time left than what you’ve lived, dealing with a life crisis, or you just want to feel totally, passionately alive, it’s time to make a commitment to yourself. You were put here on purpose and life can and should feel great. The best part about all of this is knowing that you are not alone. Your journey is yours, but we are all on a path of self discovery, and because of that, as I have realized, you (we) are not alone…we’re in it together!
I want to speak about how fashion fits into all of this for me. I’ve always loved fashion…from the time I was a little girl, I poured over the pages of old Vogue magazines and wanted to have the clothes that were on the pages, or maybe it was the perception of the life that was being portrayed. I have learned that fashion is art and the lifestyle that appears to go along with what is on the pages of a magazine is a beautiful illusion, but I still love the clothes! When I’m dressed in an outfit that I’ve created, whether it’s something new, or something that I pulled from my closet, it makes me feel good. Everything in life isn’t perfect ever, but presenting my best dressed self to the world is important to me. Clothes have a functional role but they represent much more.
“Like the words we choose to speak, the clothes we put on affect us. And, whether we realize it or not, they are a form of self expression to the world.” ~ Rachel Zoe
As The Crazy Blonde, I want to make the beauty of the everyday a priority. That includes dressing in a way that makes me feel good and hopefully inspires you. I want to finally learn to embrace this body that is mine; and I want to be more open to others while being bold in my choices. It’s time to go for it!
I hope you’ll follow along on this journey with me. Everyday is a chance to start over and get back on the path toward living your dreams. Remember that somedays will be harder than others, but the joy really is in the journey!.
