A Little More Dressed Than Necessary

Bermuda Shorts for Fall

Sunday night, I knew something wasn’t right. My shoulder started aching, then my throat hurt, and then came the headache. By bedtime, I wondered if I had Covid or some other nasty virus. Fast forward to today…Tuesday, and I’m not feeling much better. Between the flights, the time change, and going nonstop while I was in Spain, I came home worn out. Getting sick certainly wasn’t the souvenir I had in mind! But here I am, working from bed at 8:30 in the morning and already feeling like I need a nap. Thankfully, I can rest when I need to, and Baldy and the dogs are taking good care of me.

The pictures in today’s post were taken several weeks ago, and I’d almost forgotten about them. I really do love wearing Bermuda shorts for fall! It’s still somewhat warm here, so these Bermuda shorts have gotten plenty of wear, but I like bringing a little fall into the mix. For this outfit, I added chocolate brown suede sandals from Loeffler and a Brochu Walker short-sleeve cashmere sweater along with an older bag from Tory Burch (similar here). The shades of blue work so beautifully together, and the brown adds just enough warmth.

These Loeffler Randall shoes deserve a mention of their own because I’ve worn them nonstop. They go with just about everything, and the chocolate brown suede makes them especially good for early fall. I love the studded embellishment, too…just enough to make even denim shorts feel a little dressed up!

I could have worn sneakers and left it at that, but I liked the idea of a dressier shoe with the raw-edge denim. Then came the jewelry…and that’s what really makes the outfit feel like me. I almost always wear several bracelets, and the fabulous silver cross from Julie Miles, layered with pearls, adds a little drama to a simple sweater. These are the details that make getting dressed fun.

I do think making a little extra effort can change how you feel. Although, if you could see me right now in the same sweatsuit I’ve had on for two days, with no shower, you might question my advice! A better outfit will have to wait until I feel better.

It’s frustrating to be sick when there are so many things I want to do. My daughter just texted about going to see Practical Magic, and even that doesn’t sound doable today. I love my work, too, but my energy isn’t keeping up with my ideas. So I’m finishing this post and taking that nap. This too shall pass!

I’ve also invested in two very different pairs of suede sandals—a flat pair from Veronica Beard and a platform pair from Larroudé. I keep gravitating toward this lighter chocolate brown suede, and it’s nice to have a few options in a color that works with so much of my wardrobe. In the boutique below, I’ve included more Bermuda shorts and sweaters so you can put together your own version of this look, plus a white button-up from Frank & Eileen that I’m obsessed with. It would look fabulous with these shorts and any of the sandals!

Are you still wearing shorts, or has sweater weather arrived where you are? I’m enjoying a little of both! Thanks so much for spending part of your day here with me…now I’m off to get some rest.

~XOXO Suzanne
