What’s left after an edit…

I don’t know how many of you follow me on Instagram, but it’s a large part of my business and I post there every day. I’ve lost quite a few followers over the past little while… but I think I gained something better.

I posted a reel a few days ago and asked an honest question… what do you think of my content? The comments came in, mostly from Facebook and mostly long. Some people love what I’m doing. Some think my clothes are too expensive for the economy. Some want more food, more decor, less of me speaking my mind. Some are cheering me on for doing exactly that.

A mixed bag, as my Mom would have said.

Here’s what I noticed. The contradictions in the feedback weren’t a problem to solve. They were a sorting happening in real time. My audience is shifting because I’m shifting. I’ve stopped trying to be a little bit of everything for everyone, and the people who came here for that version of me are quietly leaving.

A friend reminded me yesterday that a clean out isn’t a bad thing and after thinking about it…she’s right. I constantly edit my closet…trying to only keep the things I love and wear. The pieces I keep are the ones that actually feel like me… the ones I reach for without thinking. The rest goes, no matter how much I paid for it or how good it looked on someone else.

The same principle applies to a life, a business, an audience.

I’m not building a brand for everyone. I’m building one for the women who actually want to be in the room… confident, a little sassy, and wise enough to know the difference between fashion and style. Women who don’t need anyone’s permission to be exactly who they are.

Growth is just editing, really. You keep what’s true and let the rest go. I’m doing that work in my closet, in my business, in myself… and I’ll keep bringing you along as I figure it out. If you’re still here, thank you. I see you, and I’m so glad you came.

Speaking of keeping what feels like me… here’s what I’m wearing today.

This fabulous dress is from Alémais and I loved it the minute I saw it. It’s linen, the print is vibrant and the colors are bold and rich, and…it fits like it was made for me. Even though it’s just May, this dress will transition beautifully into fall. The cut is classic enough that it will stay in my wardrobe for years.

I wore it to an outdoor cocktail party the other night and it was perfect. I can already see myself wearing it to a wedding, a luncheon, or a graduation. This dress makes a bold statement and doesn’t need much in the way of accessories. My shoes are old favorites from Sam Edelman, the adorable little bucket bag is from Sensi Studio, sunglasses are vintage Gucci (that I purchased years ago), and the earrings are from Julie Vos. The rest of my jewelry, is of course from VAHAN.
