What to Wear For the Weekend + a February Funk

01

The past several weeks have been somewhat challenging for me. Everything in my life is going really well, but I’ve been alone much of the time because my husband has been traveling and well, I’m a blogger! I get up in the morning and work on Crazy Blonde Life for several hours, run errands and usually work more at night. I think it might be the weather, but I’ve not wanted to go out very much and as a result, I’ve become uninspired and I’ve been feeling a little blue.

At this point, you probably don’t believe that I’m doing a closet post, but I really promise…it’s coming. I have a few finishing touches and I want to give you the best tips on how to get organized. I’ve also started a complete redo of my office. When we moved into the house we live in now, I wasn’t blogging, but wanted a space to have a desk and so I created a little office for myself. That was 2006 and until about a week ago, it still looked the very same. I started taking down the wallpaper myself, which was more of a project than I thought it would be. Anyway, I’m almost finished, so that’s another blog post…my office reveal. I’m really excited about making it a chic space that is inspiring to work from. However, taking down wallpaper only made my February Funk worse!

All this brings me to a point. Working for yourself can be difficult and at times you can feel very alone and confused. I’ve definitely had moments where I’m filled with so much doubt that it blocks me from advancing further and creating what I really want. I’ve also been spreading myself a little thin with trying to do video, blog posts, photography, learn how to edit my videos, etc. One thing that I’ve realized is that feeling isolated gets me no where. Friends are important and surrounding myself with people that I enjoy and that inspire me can fuel creativity.

Most days, around 4 pm, I start to feel a little tired and uninspired, especially this time of the year when it’s raining and dreary outside. So, yesterday, I asked my friend Kim to come by and look at my closet with a new eye and have a glass of wine. Sometimes, when you stand in your closet and see the same things every single day, it’s hard to be creative with putting together outfits and that was exactly how I was feeling. Kim is so great at putting her own outfits together and I knew she could help me. We had the best time pulling things out and mixing and matching my clothes in different ways. When she left, I felt sooo much better. My funk was feeling less funky and I had a great and very productive evening.

What I’ve learned is that reaching out is important. You can’t always just talk yourself into a better mood. I needed to be with a friend and do something positive and fun. Tonight is another evening alone, but…Kim and I are going to continue with the fun in my closet so I’m really looking forward to it. Being around like minded creative people is important because you end up having conversations that can spark a new or existing idea. I know in a very practical way that anything is possible and that I’m still making progress, but I haven’t felt that excitement in my body lately…now I kind of feel like anything is possible and I’m more than ready to keep going and build more in the next year than ever before.

I’m sure that at some point in the future, I’ll start to feel those limiting feelings again and tell myself a sad story, but this time…I’ll just call a friend!

Now, about the outfit…

I found the top at Loft several weeks ago and immediately loved the print and color. The top goes so well with black, but has just a touch of light grey and some pink so I decided to use those soft colors and styled it with grey jeans. I also wore my cute pink wedge sneakers from Vici and a white bag with rose gold (very spring like) to complete the outfit! I was pretty pleased with this easy casual outfit!

I’m linking the exact pieces with the exception of the bag and I’ve linked several similar ones as well as a few extras that will be great for a casual weekend!

As a result of my evening with Kim, I have some great outfits planned for Crazy Blonde Life! Be sure to check my Instagram stories today because I’ll have a preview of some of them! Thanks so much for reading!

It does always seem to be February…after Valentine’s Day is over! Good friends make everything better! Hope you’ve had a wonderful day!

I’ve tackled a few projects that really didn’t sound fun, but with a glass of wine and some great music and the company of a friend, the project didn’t last nearly long enough. I did work at home in the past and think now that I might like to be a bit more isolated again, so I think the grass is always greener…. I love that top…..and those wedge sneakers! Those are going on my must-have list. And I love the selection and prices on Vici. I don’t see any reviews on their website but maybe as they mature….

      Hi Ruth!

Haha yes, a glass of wine and a friend are always a good combination! It’s funny you say that the grass is always greener…sometimes when I’ve been really busy, all I want is an evening at home, alone! I should leave a review for Vici because so far I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve gotten! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!

Hang in there, Suzanne! You’re such an inspiration and are so loved by your loyal fans (me being one of them!) We all get a bit of the blues in the winter. Treat yourself to a fun chick flick during the late aft! (I suggest "Oceans 8". It’s Girl Power all the way!) Invite friend(s) over for some take out Chinese and vino! And remember to cut yourself (and everyone else) a little slack. This is supposed to be the season of rest and rejuvenation so you’ll be all set for busy Spring, Summer and Fall. Got to scoot and start preparing one of your yummy slow cooker recipes for din tonight! Much love… 🙂

Hi Barbara! I love all your ideas and I’ve never seen Oceans 8, so that’s definitely on the list! I will admit that I’m not very good at rest and rejuvenation, especially at home.
I’m so excited that you’re making a slow cooker recipe…please put a picture on Instagram and tag me! I would love to see your results! I hope it’s delicious! Thank you so much for your sweet comment!

I totally know what you mean. We know how to talk ourselves out of a funk but it doesn’t always work. Friends are the best, and here’s a huge HUG Suzanne!!
Love the outfit too. It’s such nice springy colors!!

Suzanne, I think Jan and Feb are the most "funk-y" months for me! You are so right working for yourself and at home, can be a challenge at times. Ive gone out to the coffeeeshops several days a week, just to have a change of scenery and be productive working. Its a nice change! Love this casual look, pretty floral and those wedge sneakers may be in my future!

Hi Jess! The coffee shop is a great idea! I may try that on Monday because it looks like the rain is going to be with us for a while! A change of scenery would be lovely! You would love the sneakers and the price is right! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  7. Heidi says:

    Hi Suzanne,
You must be right about the February Funk! After Valentine’s Day it’s been sort of downhill for me. We’ve had a lot of rain which also might help explain my low mood! I’ve just been sort of waiting it out, reading, painting and watching my favorite movies. It helps to share time with a friend but everyone I know is either working or out of town! Posts like yours do lift my spirits, though! It’s good to know I’m not alone in this!
    Xo Heidi

Hi Heidi! I said just yesterday that everyone is in Mexico or on a cruise and I’m home scraping wallpaper off the walls in my office! I think it is the rain, because I don’t want to go anywhere! Hopefully warm weather and sun are right around the corner! Thank you for reading…and have a great weekend!

  8. Lisa Harris says:

I can so relate…my husband is gone a lot, and I often feel lonely in my own home, especially this time of year when I tend to hibernate. I need to be more intentional about reaching out. Also love your idea of having a friend over help with outfits and a fresh perspective.
    Thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi Lisa! Reaching out is so helpful. Sometimes, I sit around feeling lonely and sorry for myself and that just makes things worse! I’m so much more productive and happy when the sun is shining! Thank goodness today is beautiful and is going to be a bit warmer. Spring is right around the corner! Thank you so much for linking up!
