Practicing a Morning Routine

01

My favorite way to start my day is with meditation, affirmations and or journaling.  It helps me to set the tone for my entire day.  When we first wake up, before our minds have time to start racing with a to-do list and negative self-talk, is the best time to do this.  What we tell ourselves on a daily basis affects how we think and can have an impact on our entire day and as a result, our entire lives.

Try waking up just 10 – 15 minutes earlier and use that time to put yourself in a good place through meditation, affirmations or journaling (or all 3).  If you need some help with affirmations, you can find daily inspiration from the late Louise Hay here.

Taking a few minutes to plan your day, either in the morning, or in the evening before bed can also set the tone for how things go.  I personally like morning best, because your mind is fresh and clear.  Planning should, of course, include the things that have to be done in that day, but also what would make the day feel successful for you?!  What can you do that will bring you a little closer to your goals?  One of the things that is always on my list is to do at least 15 minutes of yoga.  If I plan it, it usually happens!  Write all of these things down on your daily schedule and they will be more likely to happen.  At the end of the day you will feel successful!  There is so much power in feeling in-control of your time.

This one might sound silly to some people, but if you really want to start the day off right, after you make your list and plan your day, MAKE YOUR BED!  When I don’t make my bed, I feel pretty slack and I hate looking at!  I also can’t stand getting into an unmake bed!  Decide to do things right, and start by making your bed.  It will make all of your other choices easier, such as whether to have a muffin or a smoothie for breakfast.  Just decide to do everything the right way for 1 day and see how it feels.  Every day might not end up that way, but it’s worth giving it a try!

Throughout the day, practice mindfullness – be present no matter what you’re doing and be curious about the world around you with no judgement.  Don’t sleepwalk through your day!

Another way to keep feeling inspired to be mindful and goal-oriented is to read that inspirational book that’s collecting dust on your bedside table or listen to podcasts.  There are so many choices of books and podcasts that can inspire, educate and motivate.  One of my very favorites is “A Year of Miracles” by Marianne Williamson.

In our world, everything moves so quickly and sometimes, balance is hard to find.  Taking just a few simple steps and 10 or 15 minutes every morning can help you get back to center and feel more in control of your life.  It’s time to give your morning routine a make-over.

I will admit, that just writing this post has inspired to to decide today to “do things the right way”!  I’m going to make my bed right now!   Also, you might be wondering about the pictures.  They were taken on a beautiful day last week for my blog and one of my goals is to do something everyday to grow Crazy Blonde Life.

I’ve been wearing a lot of Cabi lately and I love this long cardigan.  It will be a staple for me as the weather gets warmer.  I’ve styled it with my favorite distressed jeans, my Cult Gaia basket bag and DVF shoes (no longer available, but these are cute) that I’ve had for years.  I love the height of the heel with the jeans, the shoes make the outfit!

It is funny but making the bed does give a feeling of satisfaction. Years ago I never made my bed when I got up, but would always make it before going to bed at night. Love those shoes you are wearing, so cute.

It’s so nice to get into a bed with fresh sheets that is crisp and neat! I don’t get mine made every morning, but I do try!! My shoes are several years old, but they are DVF so they never go out of style! Thanks so much for reading!

I enjoyed this blog. The first thing I do in the mornings is take my girls outside and enjoy the silence and then I feed the ducks that have been coming to my home this whole summer. I love that I can help them out with food and the pool to rest in. My husband is learning to deal with it, he has to clean the pool. But I feel blessed to be able to help them out.

Thank you Kim! That is such a sweet thing to do in the mornings! I think being outside in nature and especially interacting with animals feeds the soul more than anything! Thank you so much for commenting!

You are so right about giving yourself 10-15 minutes in the morning. I began doing that about 6 months ago and now, I treasure it. I don’t want anything to interfere with that time.

  5. Love this outfit! I am going to Boise for the weekend and I am wearing almost the same thing on the way down! Where did you get that necklace, I adore it!

This is a great post too. I can’t even!!! if I don’t make my bed every morning. I have my routine and am a morning person.

    Peace!

Hi Cheryl! Thanks so much! I hope you had fun in Boise! I do love my distressed jeans and I’m way more of a morning person! I wish I could remember where I got my necklace, but I’ll try and let you know or find something similar!

I love your morning ritual, always happy to meet women on a similar wavelength. I’m passionate to add mindfulness and a little magic to our lives. I created a playful planner for myself, the Ageless Rebel, and decided to publish it as it is the cutest sidekick for empowered days. It has a whole page set up for your morning ritual and cool stuff like mantras and affirmations, check lists, prompts and meditative coloring pages… My next one, Soul Sister is being published in ten days.
