Wearing High Waisted Flare Denim With a Cropped Top
When it comes to denim, there are so many options these days. While it’s easy to get into a rut and wear the same styles we’ve all worn for years (ahh…skinny), why not branch out and try some new styles. I’ve been playing around with different lengths and washes and it feels good to have more variety in my wardrobe. Of course, my skinnies will always be my go-to’s because they’re easy to style and work well on my body type, but having other choices is good. I’m short waisted and some styles look better on me than others, but I seem to be able to get away with a high waisted style jean when I’m wearing a cropped top! After all, It’s all about proportions which is why I added the high heeled sandals!
My cropped blouse is by Dôen which is a direct-to-consumer womenswear brand that makes the most beautiful feminine pieces. I recently ran across their website not long ago and absolutely loved their clothing! Dôen was founded by two sisters in Los Angeles in 2016 and they use completely women run factories. It’s a small company making quality pieces and I love supporting them! You can read more about Dôen here.
It does seem that there’s no point in wearing high waisted jeans if you’re going to wear a longer top and cover them up. Depending on your body type, there are many ways to style high waisted jeans…here are a few do’s and don’t’s.
Wear with a tucked in top - after tucking in your top, raise your arms over your head. This will pull out just the right amount of fabric and give you that perfect blouson at the waist.
Avoid Overly Blousy Tops - high waisted pants have volume and provide lots of coverage… a blousy top made of a lot of fabric will compete with that.
Style with a crop top - crop tops are made to wear with high-waist pants
Wear with a longer jacket - keep your top tucked in or cropped.
Wear at your natural waist line - the narrowest part of the torso is where high waisted pants look most flattering.
Wear the right shoes - unless you’re really tall, flared styles are better matched with wedges and heels
