The Importance of Accessories

Accessories are an important part of fashion because they infuse individual style into your outfits! They show your personality (whatever it is on any given day), they can also create interesting details, add layers to your look and provide balance and contrast! You can make a unique fashion statement with the accessories you choose!

The outfit I’m wearing above, without accessories would be perfectly fine, but also…a little boring! The accessories I chose added structure and interest to an otherwise plain look and added my unique stamp.

I am constantly looking for and purchasing unique bags, shoes, scarves and jewelry that will add a “feel” to my look. For instance, even though I’m wearing plain white jeans and a blouse, my look “feels” very Palm Beach because of the way I’ve accessorized. The classic espadrilles, crisp linen blouse from Charlie B, rattan bag, lucite and pink stone jewelry add an unmistakable Palm Beach feel. The green sunglasses are totally unrelated in color to the rest of the look, however they work because the color of the sunglasses is the same intensity of color in the word Caio on the back of my blouse. Even though they don’t match, they work.

Outfit details…Chloe rattan and leather bag, Celine sunglasses (similar here)

Julie Vos Peony Pink and gold bracelets, gold cuff and gold chain necklace with lucite ring

I’ll wear this cute blouse from Charlie B with jeans and also as a swimsuit coverup…it’s so much fun!

From Palm Beach to Urban Chic…

This outfit is so much different from the one above, which shows how different days and different moods can call for different fashion choices. Keep reading for my take on this look!

In fall, winter and spring, layers can almost be used as accessories add interest to an outfit, but what to do when it’s just too hot to layer…add a huge bag, jewelry and interesting shoes!

I full realize that this outfit isn’t for everyone because of the parachute pants (from Charlie B) but if you’re going to wear them, you need to wear them so that they work for you. I like a challenge and when I was trying to style these pants, I looked for inspiration on Pinterest. What I saw were very tall girls in either high heels or sneakers, but because of my height, neither of those shoes seemed to look right on me so I dug around in my closet, until I found these clogs from J.W. Anderson. The chunky clogs added the right amount of structure to the completely unstructured pants and gave them some balance. Since the pants are so flowy and my tee shirt is cropped and fitted, the huge gold bag from Quilted Koala (temporarily out of stock but the silver bag is available) gave the whole look even more balance. I also love how the gold bag is echoed in the gold buckle on the shoes. I also tried white sunglasses with this outfit, but the black ones grounded the flowy white pants. Sometimes, you just have to play around until you get it right. I will say that I like this look, but the pants, for me, are hard to style, although very comfortable!

I wake up and feel differently on different days and sometimes, I want to wear a long flowy dress and sometimes, I want to put on a pair of denim shorts and a tee shirt. Either way, I want to look my best and by using the right accessories I can create a vibe that feels fun and well thought out.

I tend to go through phases with what I choose to wear and I’m influenced by the season, what I’m seeing on social media (old pictures of Farrah Faucette or a photograph by Slim Aarons) and also what I happen to be watching (hello Palm Royale). Fashion allows you to express yourself and accessories can take your outfit from plain Jane to wow!

Some people love to have a uniform and rotate the same look with different pieces and that’s totally fine! Accessories can totally change those same pieces and give them a look that reflects the mood of the day. For example…your uniform could be a pair of jeans and a black blouse or top. One day, you could wear a simple tee with a pair of flare jeans, block heel sandals and jewelry with a 1970s feel and the next, you could wear cropped straight leg jeans with a button up blouse, ballet flats, diamond studs and a structured bag and your look would scream timeless and classic! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to be stylish. Collect what you love over time and use those things to change up your outfits! What you choose to wear is your unique signature and that can be different everyday.

And…a couple of skincare products that I’ve been gifted and love…
