All Things Spring...This & That for March 9

At this moment, it’s 7:00 am and I’m sitting at my desk writing this blog post and feeling very grateful for my life. My sweet Amos is in his bed beside me, I’ve been talking to my daughter Sarah in Germany about my plans to come there on April 15, I will see my grandsons later today, I’m planning my daughter Rebecca’s wedding and…Baldy just texted me a heart from the gym. I don’t know how I could ask for anything more!

I’m very content and at the same time, sitting in expectation of more great things to come. This is the state I would always like to be in and also the reason I start my day with meditation. Meditation gets me into a state of appreciation and peace in the present moment and allows me to let go of my expectations and do what I need to do…knowing that the Universe has my back and things will be better than I could ever have imagined!

Spring is almost here…the woods by our house are filled with blooming daffodils and the leaves are coming out on the trees! I’m planning on spending as much time outdoors as possible! One of my favorite things to do as the weather gets warmer is to sit in our gazebo and sip a glass of wine in the afternoons! There are so many things about the spring season that I love…from fresh asparagus to wearing the new spring trends and sitting in the sun reading a new book. In this post, I’m sharing a few of the things I’m reading, cooking, wearing and watching this month!

What I’m Watching…

The rest of the world probably watched this yesterday, but in case you’re like me…take a look at Oprah’s interview with Meghan and Harry. From what I’ve heard, “there is no subject that is off limits."

On a totally different note…Nose The Art of Making Parfum is a film for the senses…in particularly the nose. This new documentary detailing the parfumerie of Dior in Grasse, France is also a feast for the eyes. Have a look at the trailer below and look for it where you stream your films.

What to Cook and Eat for Spring

Julia Turshen’s new cookbook was released this past week and is her first collection of recipes featuring a healthier take on the simple, satisfying comfort food for which she’s known.

”In Simply Julia, readers will find 110 foolproof recipes for more nutritious takes on the simple, comforting meals Julia cooks most often. With practical chapters such as weeknight go-tos, make-ahead mains, vegan one-pot meals, chicken recipes, easy baked goods, and more, Simply Julia provides endlessly satisfying options comprised of accessible and affordable ingredients. Think dishes like Stewed Chicken with Sour Cream + Chive Dumplings, Hasselback Carrots with Smoked Paprika, and Lemon Ricotta Cupcakes—the kind of flavorful yet unfussy food everyone wants to make at home.”

It’s asparagus season and asparagus is at it’s best right now! I made the video above several years ago and this recipe remains my favorite way to eat asparagus! It’s so simple and easy and most of all…delicious! This is a perfect side dish to make for Easter!

Books I’ve Ordered and Can’t Wait to Read

I’m hoping to find more time to sit outside and read this spring and The Barbizon: The Hotel That Set Women Free by Paulina Bren is on my list to read. New York City’s legendary hotel for women, The Barbizon was “built in 1927 at the height of the Roaring Twenties, the Barbizon Hotel was intended as a safe haven for the ‘Modern Woman’ seeking a career in the arts”. Over the years, up until 1981 when men were welcomed, residents included Sylvia Plath, Titanic survivor Molly Brown, actresses Grace Kelly, Liza Minnelli, Ali MacGraw, Jaclyn Smith, Phylicia Rashad, and Cybill Shepherd. Oh my goodness. This will be a fascinating read.

Another book that I’m dying to read is Lifespan - Why we age and Why We Don’t Have to by David A. Sinclair. I want to read this book for all the obvious reasons…I’m turning 58 in May and plan on living many many more years!

“ It’s a seemingly undeniable truth that aging is inevitable. But what if everything we’ve been taught to believe about aging is wrong? What if we could choose our lifespan? In this groundbreaking book, Dr. David Sinclair, leading world authority on genetics and longevity, reveals a bold new theory for why we age. As he writes: “Aging is a disease, and that disease is treatable.”

Spring Shopping

Feminine florals and ruffles are trending more than ever this spring and I’m so excited that the weather is finally really getting warm enough to wear some of my new tops without having to cover them up with a coat!

This top from Rebecca Taylor is my most worn new item of clothing…it goes with everything I own and don’t we all need clothes like that?!

This oversized white blazer from Loft will be on heavy rotation starting today! Oversized blazers are another trend for spring and this one fits me perfectly and is so well priced! Also from Loft, these wide leg pants have a nostalgic feel to them…wear them with a pretty blouse, white sneakers and a straw hat!!

Just in case you missed the post I did on about my new Sixthreezero Electric Bike…you can read it here! It is definitely my most favorite thing for spring!
