Lazy Hazy Summer Days and Makeup That Beats the Heat
Some things never change…like the lazy hazy days of summer in the South! Sometimes the air feels so thick you could slice it with a knife! What’s a girl to do about her hair and makeup?
I still want to look good…put on makeup and do my hair, but when it feels like your makeup might slide right off your face, you need a look that’s lighter, shimmery (not shiny) and looks good for hours. Frizzy hair…that’s a whole other conversation! The right products are the only way to tame frizzy or fine hair, when the humidity is 100% !
I love to shop Nordstrom for brands that are tried and true! When I was contacted by Nordstrom to talk about Nordstrom Beauty, I went on a makeup shopping spree. I had fallen into a bit of a rut with my products and wanted to try some new things. There are so many options and sometimes it’s hard to know what to buy. Here are a few of my favorite products…makeup, skincare, and haircare plus tips for wearing makeup in the summer heat!
Here in the South, we’re seriously melting but I’m not one to go out without makeup! I do however, want to stay looking as fresh as possible throughout the day!
Each morning after my shower, I apply Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream…while that is sinking into my skin, I apply a body lotion…I love anything Jo Malone and especially the Wood Sage and Sea Salt Lotion (also love the cologne). It’s such a great scent for summer…
Before applying any makeup, I use a tinted sunscreen such as Giorgio Armani Prima Color Control Glow Moisturizer with SPF 35. I like it because it’s color correcting, serves as a primer and leaves a little glow! Another good primer to try is the Wonderglow Face Primer from Charlotte Tilbury. Primers are good for humid weather because they help your foundation last longer.
If you really want light coverage, I recommend Trish McEvoy BB Cream. It’s my favorite for a light layer of coverage that’s not as heavy as foundation and also serves as a primer. Since BB cream doesn’t have the same coverage as foundation, apply concealer (love NARS Creamy Concealer), as necessary and finish with a dusting of transparent finishing powder to set. If you want to use foundation for more coverage, my tried and true favorite is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It comes in about 100 colors and is the best foundation I’ve ever used.
Sweep Giorgio Armani Neo Nude Bronzer on your cheekbone to your hairline, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and with a highlighter brush (or fan brush), dust a shimmery highlighter (Becca makes a great one that comes in lots of colors) onto the high points of your face…the tops of your cheekbones, down the center of your nose, in the indentation in the center above your upper lip, and just a dab on your chin. Another good blush/highlighter combo to try is Tom Ford Skin Illuminating Powder Duo. I’ve been using this for a while and really love it!
Finish your look with a golden eyeshadow (maybe a little shimmery such as ones found in the Urban Decay Naked Honey Palette). Prime your lashes with a vitamin infused primer and then layer on a great mascara such as Lancome Monsieur Big and try a swipe of Dior Addict Stellar Lipshine in a bright color. The Dior Addict Stellar Lipshine colors are sheer, creamy and shiny…if you want to try more than one color, a great option is the Dior Addict Coffret Stellar Shine Collection which includes 4 colors. I think a bright lip is the perfect compliment to bronzed summer skin, but if you want to go with a more neutral lip, try NARS Sheer Lipstick in Cruising.
Last but not least, use a good makeup setter. I absolutely love this on from MAC. This helps to hydrate your skin, set your makeup and keep it looking fresh longer!
Another product that I’ve been using is NARS The Multiple Stick. I sweep it on over everything when my makeup is finished. It blends seamlessly and adds just a little more color, plus it’s great for a touchup! Use it on cheekbones, jawbones and around the hairline. It’s also great for eyes and lips. When you’re short on time, it’s a real lifesaver!
My tie dye dress is right on trend and easy breezy cool for summer…You can shop similar below:
As for my hair…my hands down favorite products are from Olaplex. I’ve tried other brands that are fine, but the combination of Olaples Bond Smoothing Shampoo, Conditioner, Bond Smoother and Bonding Oil work like nothing else on my hard to manage curly hair.
