Seeing the Potential in Everything

Here is is…November 29! So hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day of the month and that next month is the last day of the year! I just shared on Instagram that I’m starting to feel a little restless and ready for things to get back to normal, but at the same time, a little worried about what’s coming. I know that worry is like a prayer for things you don’t want, so I’m trying to stay busy, stay positive and trust that things will work out for the best!

One of the things I love to do everyday, if possible, is to take Amos for a long walk. Walks are great for Amos, and they’re also great for me. On the days when I’m feeling a little anxious, walking always helps. It’s somehow meditative and I return feeling a sense of gratitude for the neighborhood I live in, my neighbors and my beautiful home…not to mention, my sweet pup. He pulls me along and makes me walk faster than I probably would otherwise, and he has come to know the route. We pretty much go on the same walk every time…there are streets I love to walk down, just to see what’s changed and if anything is for sale.

As with any older neighborhood, there are many quirky streets…some nicer than others and many with so much potential. The street where these pictures were taken is one of my favorites. It’s several blocks from our home and I just love it.

If I had the money and nothing else to do, and if all of the houses went up for sale, I would love to buy them and fix them up. If I had to guess, most of the homes were built in the 1940’s. Most have great porches with rocking chairs and all have so much personality and potential. Who knows what might happen in the future because all we really have is time. So, for now, Amos and I will walk down our favorite street and keep an eye on things…just in case a For Sale sign goes up!

The outfit I’m wearing here came together in a hurry! I bought several pieces that I wanted to photograph from Abercrombie, but ran out of time and didn’t have a chance to style this coat. When it came time to put it on for pictures, the pieces just seemed to jump together. It’s kind of a quirky outfit, just like the neighborhood, but I love it. The pieces are versatile on their own as well.

The jacket, obviously, can be worn with just about anything and dressed up or down. The combat boots are perfect with cropped straight leg jeans or dresses and I love mine with leather pants. When I bought this bag, I thought of it as a summer bag, but it’s been surprisingly versatile and great into the cooler weather.

I would love to know how you’re feeling right now! How was Thanksgiving? Are you starting to feel restless as I am? What are you doing to make things better and stay positive?

It somehow feels right to start a blog series about ways to deal with our current situation and finding encouraging and uplifting ideas to deal with life.

I’ve become very disciplined about writing in a gratitude journal every single day. There are days when it seems hard (which I know sounds ridiculous), but once I start with just one or two things, other things to be grateful for just seem to flood the page.

It’s probably hard to see in the picture, but this is a short block, and the street is bookended (is that a word) with a beautiful church at the end of each side. It really does make for a picturesque scene, especially with the leaves turning!
