Living the Coastal Grandmother Life

The term ‘Coastal Grandmother’ was first introduced by TikTok influencer Lex Nicoleta back in 2022 and the aesthetic is still relevant in 2024 and beyond. Nicoleta referenced movie characters such as Erica Barry, (Diane Keaton), in the Nancy Meyer’s movie ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ (my favorite) as inspiration for the look. She pictured a series of classic put-together styles worn by an older woman who lives by the ocean, tends her garden and shops at the farmer’s market. Her closet includes striped button-downs, wide leg pants, turtlenecks, cable knits and straw hats. Nicoleta was just 26 years old at the time and made it clear that you don’t need grandchildren (or to even be a grandmother) to live this lifestyle. Along with the quiet luxury aesthetic, this is a classically modern, chic style that has longevity for all ages.

The looks I’m sharing here are mostly from Brochu Walker and this is my spin on Coastal Grandmother. Cozy sweaters paired with shorts, wide leg pants and tees! I realize my shoes may not be for everyone, but you could easily trade out the heels for sneakers or lower heel sandals…make this look your own!

Wide leg denim pants from Brochu Walker are paired with a tank and fabulous striped sweater that you’ll wear forever…along with a Cult Gaia Ark bag and vintage Gucci sunglasses (similar here)!

As the weather gets cooler, I love to pair a sweater with shorts…especially at the beach! As I said above, I would definitely swap out the clogs here for sneakers for a more casual (and walkable) look!

These are the same denim wide leg pants that I’ve shown above, this tine paired with a cropped tee and cozy cardigan. My necklace and bracelet are from Tamera Beardsley and I’m obsessed with these pieces!

Add a few new sweaters…chunky knits and cardigans as well as wide leg denim to your wardrobe and wear with sandals and raffia bags through September and into October if you live in a warmer climate!

The new cream blush from Buxom will give you that just-in-from-the-beach glow and comes in three colors! I’m also a fan of the plumping lipgloss from Buxom!

‘Coastal Grandmother’ style is comfortable, elevated, a little luxe and most definitely relaxed and chic. If you want to look cute while strolling the farmer’s market, or getting a coffee, then these outfit ideas are for you. You don’t have to be a grandmother to live the coastal grandmother lifestyle. It’s for anyone at any age. If you love Nancy Meyers movies, Ina Garten, and coastal living…these looks are for you!

Veronica Beard Sneakers

Pull on sneakers with elastic laces!

These sneakers from Veronica Beard are perfect for now and going into fall! Love that they’re slip-ons!

Aside from clothing, the coastal grandmother trend (classic style) can be brought into your home and lifestyle! Serena & Lily has the best wicker items, including (pictured above) the lounge chair, serving tray, wine holder, striped napkin, cheese board and beach chairs. Home fragrance along with cologne can bring that coastal feel into your home and Nest Candles are my favorites along with the Morning Light cologne from Brochu Walker! If you haven’t tried Forever Young Rosé, you must…it’s a great light and crisp rosé that’s reasonably priced!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! Thanks so much for reading…and as always I would LOVE a comment!
