A Beautiful Day for a Wedding

May was a busy month in the Smith household to say the least. Our daughter Rebecca got married on May 28…she was the last of our three daughters to get married and the first one not to have her reception at home. She chose a beautiful venue called Carolina Grove, about 30 minutes from where we live. The day couldn’t have been more perfect! The weather had been very stormy a couple of days leading up to the wedding and we were somewhat worried, but it cleared up on Friday mid day and Saturday was perfect with low humidity and temperatures in the low 80’s.

Our florist, Lyn Moser of Special Arrangements in Burlington has created florals for every special event in our lives since our girls were born. She’s a good friend, neighbor and her flowers are spectacular. She did not disappoint for Rebecca’s wedding! The flowers were all white, including gorgeous orchids, and the most beautifully scented peonies! They literally took my breath, they were so beautiful and exactly what Rebecca wanted!

The wedding ceremony was held outdoors with a backdrop of woods under an arbor dripping with orchids. I will admit that the whole thing was a little blurry in my memory until I saw the pictures. The day was a little hectic and I was a little nervous. Hayes and Rebecca wrote their own vows and I do remember crying as I listened to them read.

The bride and her sisters…

The venue could be described as a contemporary farmhouse with vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. We used a long farm table down the middle of the enormous main room with flowers down the middle.

Moonlit Macarons made hundreds of macarons as gifts for our guests and the children definitely loved them!

There are no words for how cute these boys are and how blessed I am to have them in my life!

A tender barefoot moment. My shoes were very comfortable but I was afraid I would mess them up in the gravel so I took them off!

I absolutely adore my mother-of-the-bride dress. I found it at Capital Boutique in Charlotte NC…it’s a design by Lela Rose. It was the first and only dress I tried on…it was waiting for me!

The bridesmaids bouquets lined up on the rail of the balcony that overlooked the reception.

The girls…

The invitations were hand painted by Champagne Maker, who is an artist in Charlotte specializing in wedding invitations. She and Rebecca designed them together and they suited the occasion perfectly!

The ring…

A sweet moment for dad.

One of the things Rebecca wanted from the start was a champagne tower…as you can see, they had fun pouring and the guests loved it!

All of these beautiful photographs were taken by my friend and talented photographer, Sara-Anne Caudle of Sara-Anne Photography. I have no idea how many pictures she actually took, but I know she sent us 600 pictures and they are all so amazing. She stayed until the bitter end as a guest, friend and our photographer! She captured the day better than I ever could have imagined she would!
