A Day In the Life - This & That

I recently had someone ask how I got so much done in a day…well, I don’t really feel that way, especially right now with so many interruptions. Between going to choose items for the bathroom/bedroom renovation, trying to take care of our home (somewhat), creating content, taking care of two dogs, visiting our daughters, spending time with my grandsons who live down the street and trying to maintain somewhat of a social life, I am a busy lady.

I usually get up between 5 and 6 am (you might enjoy this article on the benefits of getting up early). I know that time frame seems broad, but it just depends on what time I get into bed at night. I really need 8 hours of sleep but would prefer 9 (that rarely happens). I like the quiet of the early mornings and having a little time to myself.

I have two extremely lazy dogs (yes, even Archie). They will sit in bed or on the sofa with me while I work until 9:30 or 10! I’m really fortunate to have such sweet dogs! I will say that Archie has been a bit of a challenge because he’s not potty trained yet and he’s a little Houdini…he can somehow escape any room I try to contain him in. The only way I know he’s contained is to put him in his crate, but I really hate to do that while I’m home, although sometimes I don’t have a choice. I did just purchase the coolest faux sofa cover for the dogs (they curl up together) and now I want to get one for every sofa in the house. I love for them to snuggle up next to me, but…they are still dogs and I want to keep things nice.

After I get out of bed, I start the coffee (this is my fave coffee…low acid, organic, fair trade, superfood - this one is very similar and I have ordered it as well) and we have this coffee maker that we use everyday. I then go back upstairs to wash my face and brush my teeth and then go back down and take my supplements and get a cup of coffee. Depending on the day, I’ll sit in the den and work, or if I have a house full of men working on the bedroom, I’ll get back into bed and work. I’m so ready for this to be done (did I say that already?)!

I have also ordered the Ryze Mushroom Coffee but haven’t tried it yet. Have any of you tried it?

I usually eat breakfast around 10 or 11 (and feed the dogs) depending on when I’m finished with my computer work and posting on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, LTK and sometimes YouTube…it’s a full time job!

My favorite breakfast/lunch is avocado toast. It’s healthy and so easy to make and I never get tired of it! I also like Purely Elizabeth Organic Granola over yogurt (I really like the Chobani high protein yogurt). I add a few blueberries and a drizzle of honey for a delicious breakfast!

Honestly, I’m starting to realize that I need to get out more as I’m writing this! The cold weather has me not wanting to leave the house and I’m a homebody anyway!

I do have a business coach (KariAnne Wood) and a mentor (Melanie Layer) that I listen to (Zoom recordings if I miss live) and have meetings with virtually. KariAnne Wood of the blog Thistlewood Farms is the best business coach and has been helping me since September. KariAnne was a speaker at the blogger conference I attended back in September in Savannah, and I knew I wanted to work with her after I heard her speak! It’s always nice to have a perspective other than your own to share ideas with and learn from.

My mentor is Melanie Ann Layer (her brand is Alpha Femme) and I’ve been enrolled in her programs for about 5 years now…I’m telling you they are life changing in so many ways. Melanie also does multiple free programs every year that are amazing and I highly recommend all of them!

As I said above, I post on so many different platforms daily…either I’m posting pictures or videos of myself. Given that I am always having my picture made, I try to stay looking my best. I will admit that this renovation combined with Archie and the cold weather have made it hard to get to the gym since before Christmas. I haven’t even been walking my pups like I should. You all know I love to work out and I’ll get back to it very soon.

Getting ready everyday is easier if I have eyelash extensions and have my nails done. I only wash my hair about every three four days and that is a huge time saver because I have a lot of hair. I use different hair products and my favorites right now are Areté products, which I buy at the salon I go to, Oribe and I love the Amika Soul Food hair mask that I leave on overnight.

I also love this moisturizer for my body from One Skin! It’s supposed to help with crepey skin which is becoming a problem!

When it comes to getting dressed in the morning…if I’m not going anywhere, I’ll put on a set from Amazon or these sweater pants from PJ Salvage. If I have errands to run, I’ll usually put on a pair of jeans and a sweater (also love this look). My favorite jeans right now are these lower rise jeans from Citizens of Humanity or these flare ones from Veronica Beard. I also do really like the jeans from Boston Proper and I did just purchase the barrel leg jeans from Madewell. I’m also thinking I’ll mix things up with some different denim colors for spring! I’m loving the outfit below for a cooler spring day!

On days that I cook and make cooking videos, I’m in the kitchen for quite a while. It takes such a long time to style everything and make it look pretty for video and pictures. I am trying to figure out ways to streamline this process to make it less work because I’m not such a neat cook and the cleanup is so time consuming…especially if I make more than one recipe! I don’t have help anymore with my videos so I’m trying to do it all myself (grocery shop, style, film video, photograph and clean up) which is another reason I haven’t been sharing more recipes lately!

I do really enjoy the photography and have improved over the past few years. I recently got a new mirrorless camera and it’s made all the difference in the world. After I photograph everything, I use this handy little gadget to upload the photos to my computer.

Lately, in the afternoons after I’ve finished working, I’ve been spending time on planning for our new bedroom and bathroom…figuring out how I want to decorate and thinking about what I need.

Baldy and I have been sleeping in a queen size bed in our daughter’s bedroom since August and we definitely are ready to get back to a king size bed. We just ordered a Sleep Number mattress and I’m so excited to get our bedroom put back together!

Boll & Branch sent some amazing sheets and I’ve ordered a Peacock Alley duvet, duvet cover, and pillows as well as a blanket from Boll & Branch! I want everything to be new! Over the years, our bedroom always took a back seat to other things that needed to be done in the house and I’m trying to create a real retreat for us to enjoy! I’ve decided to paint the bedroom a soft yellow with yellow nubby silk window treatments for a calming monochromatic look.

There are also other details to consider such as what coat hangers to use (or maybe these) and organizational items for drawers (for sunglasses, socks, underwear, jewelry, etc.). See below for a few things I’ve ordered or are considering ordering! The last little details are the hardest!

I also want to get new towels for the bathroom…we finally have a big linen closet to store everything for our bathroom and bedroom!

I try to make dinner every night but we’ve been eating out more than usual lately! One thing that’s made cooking easier is placing a Whole Foods order. The delivery is $9.99 per month and I can usually get everything delivered the same day if I place the order early enough! It’s really kind of a game changer and I’m not sure why it took me so long to start doing it…my daughters have been ordering online for years!

When I cook, Baldy usually does the dishes and I sit down to work a little more to get ahead for the next day. We sometimes watch something on Netflix although right now, we aren’t thrilled with anything so we’ve been reading a little (I’m reading The Half Moon by Mary Beth Keane for book club) and going to bed early because 5:30 am comes quickly. I would love love any Netflix (or other) recommendations!!

I’m loving my pajama pants and from Anthropologie and also these pjs from Amazon (and short sleeve tees and sweatshirts that I wear with my pjs bottoms).

My skincare at night is quick and easy…I wash my face with IS Clincal Warming Honey cleanser, then use Obagi Vitamin C Serum and finally to moisturize I’ve been using this moisturizer from Tula that was gifted and I really like it. I always drink a glass of water with 2 scoops of Armra Colostrum, an Ultima Hydration packet, a Goop Superpowder packet and take Magnesium to help me rest. I’m a good sleeper so usually the only problem is Baldy snoring!

Things have been pretty intense around here for a while but I know spring is coming and we’ll be back to dog walking, eating outdoors, working on the porch and all the things I love about warm weather! I’m also going on a trip to Charleston with some of my blogger friends and Baldy and I are going on a Virgin Voyage Cruise to Mexico on April 20! Then we have time at Bald Head Island and I couldn’t be more excited…I am a summer time girl!!

And speaking of our front porch! I did a spring photo shoot (nearly froze to death) and needed the porch to look more springy so I jazzed it up a bit with boxwood balls (some real preserved boxwood and some artificial), potted hydrangeas and some vintage lattice planters that I’ve had forever…these from Etsy are similar and I’m obsessed with these. I also added pillows and a throw blanket to the rocking chairs! I love the way it turned out, even though I had to bring the hydrangeas in to keep them from freezing!

I also love the items below and really want to find a place to put that egg chair…it’s too fabulous!

I’m including a boutique below with everything from this post as well as some new arrivals for spring!
