How to Style a Trench Coat for Spring
Sometimes we don't realize how much of a deep breath we need to take until we push ourselves to take it, even when we think we don’t have the time.
I have been needing to take a break and step outside of my daily routine and gain a little perspective for several days now. It’s sometimes hard to be creative when you’re focusing so hard on getting a project (or projects) done! For the past two weeks, I’ve been focused on getting organized and doing some projects for Crazy Blonde Life along with the normal things that have to be done on a daily basis anyway! I have taken very few moments to stop and do something just for the pleasure of doing it. That is, as we all know…a very bad idea.
It’s funny that we think what’s best for us is keeping our heads down and working until everything is complete. Every now and then, I think I can pull an all-nighter and just blow through my to-do list. I rarely ever make it much past 11 pm (because I’m a sleepy head), but I think about it all of the time. It would be nice to wake up to a blank list. I’m sure however, that it wouldn’t take long for another, even longer list to be made. It’s a good idea in theory (staying up all night), but, we just get burnt out and grumpy. I’m convinced that being caught up isn’t even possible, so we might as well just relax and enjoy things the way they are! Easier said than done…right?
We all talk about a balanced life, but I’m not sure that balance is possible when you’re focused on goals and dreams. Things come up when things come up and they need to be dealt with. I can remember very few times in my life when I felt balanced. I can remember times in my life when I felt happy and let things flow. Now that’s the secret, because when you just take things as they come, you’re not worrying all the time about this and that! I wake up everyday in the flow, for the most part, but as the days goes on, you know…stuff happens and the overwhelm kicks in. The best way to deal with this in my opinion is to take an hour or even 15 minutes. Just breathe, read a chapter of a book, go on a short walk and remember what truly matters in life. For me, taking a step back and putting things into perspective in that way is very helpful.
Today, if you’re feeling a little frazzled, just breathe for a moment and find a reason to be grateful for something. Just that moment of quiet could do wonders for the rest of your day!
So…it was Spring for a hot minute (I learned that phrase from my daughter Sarah, haha), but we’re going to be back to winter by tomorrow. That’s usually the way it goes around here though! I decided to pull out my trench and I’m excited for the day it becomes the norm, rather than feeling like I’m playing musical coats, reaching for a light jacket one day, and my furry warm coat the next. Anyway, I started thinking about ways to incorporate some lighter colors into my wardrobe, even though I know the cold is on it’s way!
I’ve been wearing white booties all season long, but paired with a trench coat and light wash denim, they feel a lot more spring like. A trench coat is a classic outwear piece that can easily make you look like a real fashionista (isn’t that the goal) when paired with the right pieces and it’s also extremely practical…a classic wardrobe essential that everyone should own. The best wardrobe staples are both stylish and functional, which is what makes the trench such a wonderful (and very necessary) item in any woman’s closet. No matter what your personal style, it’s easy to find that a trench coat is a perfect edition to your outerwear collection.
I hope you all find an hour or so this weekend to take a breath, relax and do something that makes your heart sing! Thanks so much for reading and have the best weekend!
