What I Am...
I read a great post on Facebook today that really made me think about the negative self talk that goes on in my head every day. It was titled “I Am Not”. So often, we define ourselves by what we aren’t and not by what we are.. I am not young anymore, I am not as successful as I would like to be, I did not get enough done yesterday, I am not organized…the list goes on.
Wouldn’t it be better if we focused on what great things we’ve accomplished and the positive attributes that we have? Why is it that we beat ourselves up so often? I think that when we talk to ourselves in a negative way, it causes us to repeat patterns of behavior that don’t serve us. It’s almost as if we talk ourselves into going back to the same familiar habits because change is too hard.
Here is a simple question to ask yourself everyday that I believe will inspire positive change…
”Does this behavior align with the woman I want to be and the life I want to create?”
So…who are you really? I am confident (mostly), so why don’t I speak up at times when I have the opportunity. I still struggle with telling certain people that I’m a blogger, though not as much as I used to. I spend the majority of my time working on this blog and I AM A BLOGGER!
We are all capable of doing anything we want to do…so let’s stop talking ourselves out of it!
My goal this year is to be optimistic and to get out of the crazy cycle of negative self talk. I’m going to tape this question to my computer screen (and my bathroom mirror and the refrigerator) and read it when I need to remember that the life I want to create is up to me. I have the freedom to choose to be positive and make the changes necessary to live my best life. I have the freedom to create a new and positive way of living!
Today, step out of the comfort zone that is causing you to stay stuck in the same behavior. Ask yourself - ”Does this behavior align with the woman I want to be and the life I want to create?” Challenge yourself to make the most of your experience one small step at a time!
Just a little about the outfit - my top is by La Vie which is a brand created by Rebecca Taylor. Rebecca Taylor has been one of my favorite brands for years and this top is no exception! It is so versatile and I’ll wear it almost all year long. I paired it with grey skinny jeans, a brown bag from Henri Bendel and beige Jimmy Choo pumps. I think it’s the perfect “business” look for a blogger!
“Rebecca Taylor has been a go-to brand for silk dresses, ruffled skirts, and boho blouses for nearly 20 years, so you can imagine she’s amassed quite the colorful archive. But Taylor is passionate about casual clothes, too; most days, you’ll find her in jeans, a T-shirt, and sneakers—not a dress. “Everyone always tells me they buy my clothes for parties,” she says. “But I really want them to wear Rebecca Taylor during the day, too. I live in jeans and vintage Victorian shirts, so I wanted to start offering new pieces that felt more personal to me.” Enter: Taylor’s new collection, La Vie.” ~ Vogue
