What to Do With Your Life in October - From Serious to Sublime
Become a Mentor
Confidence is a choiceβ¦a big part of being confident is being brave, and you canβt be brave unless youβre scared. ~ Gayle King from O Magazine
Judging by the response I got from my βRespect is Importantβ post, we are all a little scared, and definitely angry, but also, beyond ready to be brave and stand up for whatβs right and just. From our bravery we will gain the confidence to go forward and make our country a place where women can feel empowered to stand up for themselves and each other and change the dialog about what it means to be a woman. One way to give back to your community is to become a mentor. Change starts with one person and the empowerment of women is good for society in general. Read this great article from Forbes if youβre interested in learning more. Itβs really important to take an active role in mentoring the next generation and being a role model. I love that we as women are finally realizing that we can support each other, and that sharing in each otherβs successes doesnβt take away from our own.
Take a Moment to Regroup
When your life feels overscheduled and you need a break, try this. Sit quietly with your eyes closed. Feel the sensation of your natural breath going in and out, right at the very edge of your nostrils. Start to rest your busy mind. Think of your thoughts like clouds that travel in and out of your mind. Just as it is normal for your brain to create thoughts, it is normal for those thoughts to go away. Take a moment to experience this gap - this break from worrying and planning. After a few seconds, return to your normal breath. Thoughts will come and go. If you can learn to get familiar with this opening in your mind, you will be able to go there whenever you need.
