I'm so excited to be teaming up with Cheryl Tucker from Northwest Mountain Living to pose a fitness challenge!  Whether you've been working out for years or you are just starting to work out now in your 50s, this challenge is for you!  Cheryl and I are challenging you to work out at least three days a week for the next month (starting June 1) and post your results on our blogs!  We want to see your pictures and hear about your progress!   Hop over to Northwest Mountain Living to see what Cheryl is up to!  Also, just in case you missed it, I made a short video that will work your whole body and especially your core!  Core exercises train the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen to work in harmony, leading to better balance and stability.

You can do this workout in about 10 minutes!

It's important to start...start small and don't judge yourself.  Anything is possible!  Start today!

We are all very busy and so many times the first thing to go is our workout!  Cheryl and I want to challenge you to do just 15 minutes of exercise a day three days a week.  You can do whatever workout you like as long as you move your body.  Fifteen minutes of yoga, pilates, weight training, or just a simple walk or run will make a difference in your life and once you get in the habit, you'll probably want to do more (or do my video above plus a short walk).  Make yourself a priority!

Here are a few fitness and diet tips to get you started on your way to being as fit as you can be!

Don't be afraid to try something new.

Use the proper technique, no matter what you decide to do.

Make sure you warm up!

Implement stability and balance training.

Clean up your diet and keep a food journal.

Strength training is vital for women over 50 because of the risk of osteoroporsis.

Be selfish and take care of yourself...you'll have more to give to others.

Exercise outside and connect with nature.

Get enough sleep.

Get enough protein.  Most women need around 46 grams a day.  You can read more here.

Get enough Vitamin D. (I did a whole post because it's so important)

Yoga

Yoga is a great way to stay flexible and tone muscles at the same time.  The benefits of yoga include increased flexibility, increased muscle strength and tone,  improved respiration, energy and vitality,  Yoga also helps to maintain a balanced metabolism, it helps with weight reduction, cardio and circulatory health.
