Stay Warm & Cozy
I was inspired to put this outfit together from a picture I saw on Instagram! I love the blue and white for winter because it feels festive without being red! Red is great and I will certainly be wearing it, but this blue and white combo paired with silver booties is nice for a change! I pulled this outfit from my closet, but Iβve linked very similar pieces.
Just a side noteβ¦I had a few comments on my Instagram post in this outfit about the fur. Because of that, Iβm including a few facts about Mongolian Sheep wool. Itβs no different than any other kind of wool. The animals are sheared, for their coats and itβs actually very humane because they are more comfortable without the hot fur during the hot times of the year. So please, look into this a little more if youβre worried about it and donβt leave a negative comment!
βSome people hesitate to buy anything to do with Mongolian fur products (from Mongolian sheep) because it might seem they are supporting a practice that is not humane or healthy for animals. The short answer to this question isβ¦donβt worry about inhumane or cruel treatment because nomads in Central Asia and Mongolia tend to take really good care of their animals because they want them to stay healthy and happy.
What Is Mongolian Fur Made Out Of?
It's mostly made from Mongolian sheep wool and fur. Nomads shear their sheep during late spring before it gets really hot. If they didn't shear their sheep, they would be miserable because of the heat. Sheep also slowly shed during the summer months as well, so it's a good way for nomads to support their communities and families.
Why It's Not Inhumane or Cruel
βMongolian sheep that are raised in the steppes have a completely different way of lifestyle compared to farmed animals. They are free to roam around during the day grazing on wild grass and during the night they come back to their ranch.
The nomads regularly check up on their animals for infection or signs of poor health. So they are well tended to and are cared for by their owners.
It might be taken as cruelty however if you are buying Mongolian fur pelt, or sheepskin, because the animal has to be slaughtered for their pelt and skin, but for their wool and fur, they are just sheared and actually sit peacefully and quietly during the process. Once it's done, they are free to go.β
Mongolian animals and livestock are not held in pens for day and night. They have the freedom to graze the Mongolian countryside and live quite comfortably. Nomads do tend to slaughter some of the sheep and goats for food, but most of their practices are humane.
