LAVENDER HONEY ICE CREAM

Recently, I watched the movie It's Complicated for about the 20th time.  It is one of my favorite movies and every time I watch it I want some Lavender Honey Ice Cream...and the gourmet shop that Meryl Streep owns, and the house, etc., etc., etc.  I've had an ice cream maker for about three years now and never used it, so I decided to try out the Lavender Honey Ice Cream over the weekend.  I found a recipe from Martha Stewart (she has the best ones),  bought some lavender at our local coop and used local honey which I think makes a difference.  This ice cream  is very rich and creamy with the lovely taste of lavender. It feels like the perfect refreshing summer dessert.

I used fresh local eggs and garnished the ice cream with fresh lavender.

I think cooking with copper makes a big difference because it conducts the heat so evenly, but any saucepan will work.

Heat the milk, honey and lavender until it comes to a gentle boil.

Strain the mixture after it steeps for about 5 minutes.

The eggs are beaten with the sugar and then added back to the milk with an additional cup of heavy cream.

Everything is put into an ice cream maker and this is what it looks like.  I put the ice cream back into the freezer for several hours before serving so it would be firmer.  Don't forget to freeze the bowl in your ice cream maker before making this recipe.

I bought the antique linen towel in the pictures from Pandora de Balthazar.  Click here if you would like to know more about Pandora's beautiful European linens.

I hope everyone has a great week!  I can't believe it's already the last week in June...the summer is going by so fast!
