A SQUARE IN SAVANNAH
Savannah has 22 squares in it's beautiful historic district. These squares are surrounded by beautiful churches, homes, museums and restaurants and are shaded by huge live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. They offer a place for picnics, strolling and even outdoor weddings. The pictures below were taken in Telfair Square. The square is surrounded by the Jepson Museum and The Telfair Academy which was once a mansion owned by the Telfair family. It is one of the most spectacular squares in Savannah!
I choose a comfortable and cool outfit for this afternoon of sight seeing because it is always hot and humid in the Summer in Savannah!
This building is the Telfair Academy. It is the oldest public art museum in the South and opened its doors in 1886. The museum houses nineteenth and twentieth centuy American and European art.
The Jepson Center is pictured below. After we took these pictures, we saw a fascinating Elvis Presley photography exhibit at the Museum. The photographs, taken by Alfred Wertheimer are of Elvis in 1956 when he was 26 years old. If you're in Savannah, it is definitely worth seeing.
We had lunch at a charming little Italian restaurant near the square called Bella Napoli. The food was delicious and I was so hungry that I completely forgot to take pictures!
