This fall, handbags have definitely taken an interesting turn. Designers have gone all out with new and fresh ideas as well as new takes on classic handbag designs. There really is something for everyone!

Fall 2019 was all about snakeskin and while that’s still relevant, this year we’re looking more at quilted leather in rich earth tones. You’ll see Chanel, Gucci, Tory Burch, and department store brands offering similar quilted bags, with options for every budget. I personally like to shop more affordable luxury brands like Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Coach. with an occasional splurge on a more luxe designer bag. Satchels are always trending because of their practicality, but saddle bags and hobos are also really hot this season. More structured bags (lady like) with convertible straps that can be carried by either a top handle or a removable shoulder strap are something you’ll see everywhere. Who doesn’t love a little something ladylike? Miu Miu, Dior and Erdem all showed classic pocketbook shapes on their Fall/Winter 2020 runways, using bold colors and fun materials to give the vintage-inspired style a modern upgrade.

Geometric Shapes

Geometric shapes have been gaining ground for a while, with numerous contemporary brands rolling out shoulder bags that are striking for their angular qualities. Some of these bags have a distinctly vintage vibe such as Dior’s sturdy tan snap-fastened varieties, or Paco Rabanne’s embellished bags. At Marc Jacobs, bright color ways gave styles a retro ’50s mood, and Jil Sander’s designs were more avant-garde.
